KANDREX PRODUCT GUIDES
How to get a business phone number
Start with the calls your business needs to handle, choose a number and calling allowance, complete verification, then test both incoming and outgoing calls before sharing the number with customers.

1. Decide what your business phone line must do
Write down who will answer incoming calls, which destinations you will call and how many people need access. A freelancer who handles a few client conversations has different requirements from a dispatch team with extended calls. Decide whether missed callers should reach voicemail or an AI receptionist. This decision affects both the package you choose and the information you need to collect during setup.
A virtual phone number is a business number used through a software calling service. Kandrex provides browser calling rather than requiring a dedicated desk phone for the published business package. The account, calling allowance and configured service matter as much as the number itself. Check your browser microphone permissions, headset and internet connection before relying on it for customer calls.
A virtual number or a complete business phone system?
A virtual number gives your business a separate calling identity. A phone system adds the account access, calling workspace and ways to handle conversations around that number. The terms can overlap: a number can be supplied as part of a phone package, while a number-only service may simply forward calls to another device.
For one person, a dedicated number with browser calling and call history may be enough. For several employees, write down who needs a login, which number each person uses and whether you need shared ringing, transfers or a queue. Number quantity, user access and a shared minutes pool are different requirements. Confirm each one rather than assuming a single-number package covers a whole team.
Kandrex publishes ordinary business calling, team packages and optional AI answering. Choose against your required workflow: personal work calls, dispatch conversations, managed team numbers or answering when you are unavailable. Advanced routing, integrations and guaranteed availability should be confirmed explicitly in your quote.
2. Estimate minutes before comparing phone systems
Use expected conversations rather than a headline per-minute rate. For example, 90 billable calls averaging four minutes would use 360 minutes. This is a planning example, not a promise about billing: your quote must confirm rounding, destinations and any carrier-related charges. Include incoming calls in your estimate when they are billable under your agreement.
Compare the same workload across providers: number quantity, included voice minutes, users, optional recording, SMS and renewal dates. A low advertised rate does not establish the final monthly total. Ask whether a team shares a pool or each person receives a separate allowance, and what happens when the allowance is exhausted.
3. Complete verification and confirm number availability
With Kandrex, contact the team with your intended use, location, number requirements and expected calling volume. Account verification and workflow approval come before activation. Number availability is confirmed during onboarding; a requested location or specific number is not guaranteed. Do not pay on the assumption that a number shown in an illustrative website preview has been reserved for you.
Use a caller ID that you own or are authorized to use. Buying a virtual number is not permission to spoof another business or place unauthorized automated calls. A US number also does not guarantee acceptance by third-party account-verification or OTP systems. Explain any essential use case before purchasing.
4. Test your browser calling setup
After activation, sign in to your authorized account, allow microphone access and choose the correct audio device. Place a short test call to a number you control. Confirm that the other person can hear you and that you can hear them. Test incoming calling separately, then hang up and confirm that the call ends. Use your dashboard call history to review the test; a browser timer alone is not authoritative billing evidence.
If a test reaches voicemail, the destination may still have answered. Connected is not the same as a human conversation. Record the call time and destination when reporting a problem, and avoid repeatedly creating new calls while an existing connection is unresolved. Check your account allowance and expiry before investigating a failed outbound attempt.
5. Understand the separate allowances
Ordinary voice, AI receptionist usage, SMS and recording are separate balances in Kandrex. A voice package does not automatically purchase AI answering or recording. A recording request can be rejected when recording minutes are unavailable even if ordinary calling works. Recording is optional and requires the appropriate participant consent; ask the team about your applicable requirements.
Review the quote for the agreed package period, expiry, additional-number costs, billing increments and applicable taxes or carrier fees. Plan a renewal reminder around your account deadline. Keep the confirmed terms with your business records so a later change in the public price list does not confuse the agreement that applies to your account.
Can I get a free business phone number?
Kandrex does not currently advertise a free business-number package. Its published Business Starter offer is a paid package. When comparing free offers elsewhere, check whether they include the number only, incoming calling, outbound minutes or a temporary trial. Confirm the renewal cost and any geographical or account eligibility requirements directly with that provider.
Choose the service that fits your actual workflow rather than signing up solely because a number appears free. For a customer-facing line, successful testing, clear service limits and a workable renewal process are practical requirements. Ask Kandrex to confirm your package and number before moving existing customer communications to it.
